SUMMARY:"Pathways to Success" Career Symposium 2023
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT “PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS” CAREER SYMPOSIUM\nPathways to Success” Career Symposium is a unique networking opportunity for veterinary students of all four years held annually at Heritage Place in Oklahoma City. Students\, private practitioners\, and industry representatives are first addressed by the board members of V.E.T. regarding updates and announcements. Following the Board Members\, a panel of speakers from Bank of America\, CARR Real Estate\, and DVM Match will discuss how to best financially prepare yourself during vet school for practice ownership upon graduation. This panel will discuss a variety of options available to new practice owners\, trends in the market\, and how to be a successful business owner from the get go. Next is our Outreach Session where attending hospitals and industry sponsors will be placed in booths much like a tradeshow atmosphere. Students are broken into small groups that rotate between booths\, getting to speak and network with visiting hospitals about available internships\, externships\, and associate positions. Students also get the opportunity to learn from industry sponsors about product lines/products\, equipment\, services\, and begin forming relationships with industry representatives in attendance. Furthermore\, this event is strategically held close to AAEP. This allows industry representatives to speak with attending practitioners about AAEP promotions\, rebate standings\, and make follow-up appointments for a future\, more in-depth conversation. After the Outreach Session is our final Keynote Speaker\, Dr. Ryan Ferris\, MS\, Dipl. ACT who will discuss the good\, the bad\, and the ugly of practicing veterinary medicine and practice ownership within the first five years of graduating vet school.
